As we debuted local Hawaii-based designer summer styles at our First Friday fashion show this past weekend, some current summer trends true to Hawaiian style caught our eye.

From bold patterns to cut-out shapes, your summer looks are in for an upgrade - and not only with the swimsuit itself. This year we're all about the entire look, including eye-catching cover-ups that draw the whole outfit together for a major statement moment.
This dress, along with those in the main photo above, is the perfect example of a summer swim look that speaks for itself! Whether you're headed to the beach or beyond, this is a style that you can wear just about anywhere, over a swimsuit or on its own, to show your trendy side this season. The mix of the bold geometric patterns combines effortlessly for a piece unlike any other.
Another trend we're seeing: texture.
From swimsuit to a swimwear skirt, a crocheted net material brings just the kind of pop your outfit needs this summer! Mix it with a simpler piece like you see here to bring harmony to the look.
How could we possibly leave out cut-outs this season?! The shape and dimension this gives to swimsuits is the most flattering for all body shapes and sizes. We're tossing aside our plain bikinis and opting for more fashionably tasteful styles to sport all summer long.
Toss on your denim jackets! This summer trend adds another "it" factor to your swimwear look, doubling as a cover-up to protect your shoulders from the sun. Add this to your cut-out swimsuit and denim shorts, and you have a complete outfit ready to go!
Can we take a moment for the sporty spice style that's trending this summer? Pair that denim jacket and swimsuit combo with chunky sneakers for a beach to street style look that channels the cool girl in all of us.
Last but not least, something we've seen throughout all of these trends is a key to summer style:

Light layers with different textures, materials, patterns, and colors bring a fun spin to any outfit, taking it from basic to bold. Sport a pair of denim shorts, sneakers, and your favorite accessories with your swimsuit to create a trendy look that could be on the cover of a fashion magazine!
