Kapa Mag

More than a magazine...

About Kapa Magazine Hawaiʻi

Kapa Magazine Hawaiʻi is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and professional creative platform rooted in fashion, performance, community, and education.

Youth-driven and values-based, Kapa was created by working artists and cultural practitioners to support HawaiÊ»i’s emerging creatives—especially those seeking that first step into the professional world.

We offer curated courses for youth, hands-on programs, and industry-connected resources that reflect the realities of growing up and creating in Hawaiʻi. Whether on the runway, in the classroom, behind the camera, or inside a care home, Kapa Mag creates space for young talent to be seen, heard, and celebrated.

Through the unique power of a magazine, we share stories through image, culture, and education. We shine a vibrant spotlight on local designers and fashion movements, connecting fashion to identity and self-expression—while honoring both contemporary voices and historical roots.

Operating under the umbrella of Kapa Magazine Hawaiʻi, we are home to original programs, pop-ups, events, and publications that nurture the next generation with confidence, connection, and care.

Kapa Mag, our abbreviated name, is more than a magazine—it’s a platform, a training ground, and a movement. Inspired by the traditional Hawaiian cloth, kapa—known for its layers, process, and meaning—the name reflects the foundation we aim to build through fashion and creative expression in HawaiÊ»i.

Why a magazine, you ask? In a world that lives mostly online, there’s something powerful about holding a printed page. For many of our keiki, it’s the first and perhaps last time they may see themselves—styled, celebrated, and remembered—in something tangible, lasting and in print
