Service Description

Koʻu ʻOihana Ponoʻi is an exciting, inclusive course developed by Kapa Magazine Hawaiʻi to help youth rediscover who they are and how they want to show up in the world — through creativity, self-reflection, and expression. The phrase “Koʻu ʻOihana Ponoʻi” means “The business of me” — because we believe every individual deserves the tools to know themselves, live pono, and pursue their dreams with confidence. This 8- to 16-hour program offers a hands-on approach that supports youth through quick exercises, expressive challenges, and values-based lessons that explore identity, communication, and creative potential. Program Goals Support youth in exploring identity and values Empower children through artistic forms like music, dance, fashion, and performance Create an inclusive, safe space for collaboration and healthy emotional expression Introduce creative tools for communication — including self-presentation, public speaking, and even basic digital skills like simple coding What Students Will Do Participate in team-building and self-discovery exercises Practice emotional awareness and boundary-setting Engage in performing arts challenges (movement, vocals, K-pop, etc.) Build a personal brand rooted in values and self-worth Collaborate with peers toward shared goals Connect with community leaders and local creatives Who It’s For Youth ages 10–18 Students in schools, summer programs, or community orgs Inquisitive individuals ready to explore “Who am I?” in a safe, affirming space Koʻu ʻOihana Ponoʻi can be adapted to your school or organization’s culture — serving as a mindset reset, confidence builder, and creative launchpad. We offer 8-, 12-, and 18-week versions and a variety of class lengths (2–12 hours), depending on your setting. Kapa Mag – More Than a Magazine

Kapa Mag - More than a Magazine is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to building confidence, strengthening local identity, and supporting creative and business growth across the Hawaiian Islands.

We serve communities through practical programs and opportunities that guide individuals in developing their voice, sharpening their skills, and pursuing meaningful work.

Our work focuses on three core areas

  1. Providing engaging, skill-building classes like Koʻu ʻOihana Ponoʻi which helps Hawaiʻi’s youth grow in confidence, creativity, and self-expression while staying grounded and supported in a safe, structured environment.

  2. Creating ongoing platforms for youth like HoTR and emerging creatives — especially in Hawaiʻi’s fashion and arts communities — to explore ideas, collaborate with peers and professionals, and showcase their work.

  3. Offering accessible business support services — including branding, planning, and creative consulting — tailored to the needs of Hawaiʻi-based entrepreneurs, start-ups, and nonprofits.
