Service Description

Hawaiʻi on the Runway (HoTR) is a statewide youth fashion initiative that brings together student designers, models, makeup artists, stylists, and creatives to collaborate, compete, and showcase their skills on and off the runway. Whether your school already has a fashion department or just a few standout fashionistas — HoTR is the place to grow, shine, and connect. This program nurtures the next generation of Hawaiʻi’s fashion and beauty professionals by offering mentorship, networking, creative collaboration, and live performance opportunities — culminating in a powerful runway competition that celebrates style, identity, and teamwork. For High school and intermediate students across Hawaiʻi, aspiring designers, models, stylists, makeup artists, and creatives, schools and educators looking to support student voice and expression through fashion. What Students Will Gain Runway training, styling tips, and professional presentation coaching Hands-on experience in creative direction and teamwork Exposure to real-world fashion, media, and performing arts practices Opportunities to work with industry professionals and peers statewide Confidence, presence, and pride in their culture, style, and identity Competition Timeline August – Registration Opens September – School Fashion Group Kickoff Meeting October – HoTR Check-in #1 (concepts + team roles) November – HoTR Check-in #2 (progress & planning) January – HoTR Check-in #3 (line sheets due) February – HoTR Check-in #4 (finalize all creative elements: models, looks, location) March – First Round Competitions Begin May – HoTR Final Competitions & Showcase Get Involved Does your school have a fashion department? Kapa Mag – More Than a Magazine

Kapa Mag - More than a Magazine is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to building confidence, strengthening local identity, and supporting creative and business growth across the Hawaiian Islands.

We serve communities through practical programs and opportunities that guide individuals in developing their voice, sharpening their skills, and pursuing meaningful work.

Our work focuses on three core areas:

  1. Providing engaging, skill-building classes like Koʻu ʻOihana Ponoʻi which helps Hawaiʻi’s youth grow in confidence, creativity, and self-expression while staying grounded and supported in a safe, structured environment.

  2. Creating ongoing platforms for youth like HoTR and emerging creatives — especially in Hawaiʻi’s fashion and arts communities — to explore ideas, collaborate with peers and professionals, and showcase their work.

  3. Offering accessible business support services — including branding, planning, and creative consulting — tailored to the needs of Hawaiʻi-based entrepreneurs, start-ups, and nonprofits.
